Hemolacria and More: Spectacular Case of Bleeding in Two Calves

A 20-day old calf was presented to the Adnan Menderes University, Veterinary Hospital, Department of Internal Medicine and less than one month old calf in the field was reported by the Veterinary Surgeon at different times in 2017 from different farms to Umurlu district. On arrival the present one case presented fever, tachycardia, tachypnea, anormal bleeding symptoms [hemolacria (bloody tears), epistaxis, ear bleeding, prolonged bleeding time following injection and recurrent bleeding all over the body after minor trauma or spontaneously] and the others had an spontaneously bleeding on injection side. As being informed by the owner of both calves there was no change after the treatment performed by initial Veterinary Surgeon for two weeks. In an attempt to determine alterations that might be related to probable bovine neonatal pancytopenia (BNP), blood gas analysis, selected coagulation parameters were analyzed. Only in the first case, performed both rapid ELİSA test kit (IDEXX SNAP ® BVDV AntigenTest, United States) and PCR (Veterinary Research Control Instıtute, Bornova, İzmir) tested for bovine virus diarrhea virus antigen that were all negative. According to blood gase analysis of first case, Hct (<10%), Na⁺ (130.2 mmol/L), K⁺⁺ (4.03 mmol/L), iCa (1.21 mmol/L), HCO3 (32.8 mmol/L), BE (+6.5 mmol) and coagulation parameter in both cases PT (>101 sec) and fibrinogen (> 113 mg/dL) as well as APTT (64.1 and 67.3 sec) were analyzed respectively. As a result of histopathological analysis and postmortem examination of first case, macroscopically petechial hemorrhage on the whole body, linear bleeding in jejenum and microscopically excudate with fibrin, neutrophil and blood in intestinal villus, tonsillar crypt, and pulmonary alveolus were obtained while other case could not be performed. As a result of clinical examination and laboratory results were suspected BNP and this is first reported case of hemolacria in a calf and associated coagulation variations in calves in Eagean Region of Turkey.

Some metabolic profile markers in goats

Herd health control programs in large- or small-scale goat farms can both positively affect the future of the farm and increase the profit to be obtained. For this reason, pregnancy, birth and postpartum processes, in which intense physiological and biochemical events occur, should be followed closely. Within the framework of the herd health control program, biochemical activities in the processes related to the metabolic profile test application are monitored and attempts are made to eliminate the metabolic problems or deficiencies that may occur. In this review, some metabolic profile test markers in goats were mentioned.

Pathophysiology of Musine Expression in Colon Tumors

Colorectal carcinomas are among the most common cancers in the world, after skin, lung and breast cancers, and are the third leading cause of cancer-related death. Many different histopathological features that may affect the long-term prognosis after surgical treatment in colorectal carcinomas and explain the different clinical course of patients with similar stages are being investigated. Clearly revealing the histopathological profile of these types of tumors is important in terms of providing patient-based prognostic predictions. In this review article, we discussed the importance of mucin expressions in colorectal carcinomas.

The Investigation of Adrenomedulline Levels in Dogs with Lower Respitory System Diseases

In recent years, there have been many studies between humans and other animal groups on Adrenomedullin (AdM) peptide, which is stated to have sometimes positive effects on internal organs such as the heart, lung, and kidney, and sometimes has uncertain effects. The aim of this research is to analyze and compare AdM levels in canines with lower respiratory tract disease and healthy dogs. The study focuses on dogs with lower respiratory diseases. They were grouped and evaluated before and after treatment. The findings showed that there was no difference between healthy and diseased canines in AdM values. However, a slight increase in AdM values was observed in the post-treatment group. However, it was concluded that parameters such as age, breed, and living conditions may also be important in AdM levels, and that further studies should be done in AdM research by taking these parameters into consideration and grouping dogs with different lower respiratory tract diseases.
